Training Haitian Pastors in Expository Preaching

Quick Stats1,2
• Population: 10 million
• Official Languages: French and Haitian Creole
• Evangelical population: 16%

Country Overview

Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic which occupies the eastern two-thirds of the island. Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas, and their situation only worsened with the devastating 2010 earthquake that killed an estimated 230,000 and left about a million homeless. Haiti continues to rebuild and restructure their economy, infrastructure, social and political life. Many Haitians with the opportunity for advanced training or studies never return to Haiti, creating a leadership vacuum and unsolved issues across the generations.

In spite of difficulties, the evangelical church is growing in a land historically dominated with dark spiritual forces like voodoo. In order to strengthen the Haitian church, shepherds need to be equipped to faithfully handle God’s Word so that the gospel can run in Haiti (2 Thessalonians 3:1).
