Training Brazilian Pastors in Expository Preaching

Missions in Brazil

Brazil_(orthographic_projection).svgQuick Stats1
• Population: 205 million
• Official Language: Portuguese
• Evangelical population: 26.3%

Country Overview
Brazil represents half of South America’s population and geographic size. The Portuguese speaking country ranks fifth globally in both population and size. Brazil features the Amazon river and rainforest along with thousands of kilometers bordering the Atlantic ocean. Brazil’s religious landscape is largely a mix of professed Catholics (65%) and different denominations of Protestant Christianity (26.3%), many of whom combine religious beliefs with a Spiritist worldview rooted in animism and witchcraft.

More Brazilian church leaders need training in the Scriptures to better conform their lives and ministries to the Scriptures and reach more of the lost for Christ.

Training History
Leadership Resources began training in Brazil in 2006 with a group of twelve pastors from First Baptist Church of Atibaia in Atibaia, Brazil (PIBA). Two years later, another group started training twenty more pastors in the Training National Trainers program. In 2009, God gripped PIBA leadership with a vision to spread training in exposition across their country. By 2014, Leadership Resources had trained thirty-two pastors who in turn had trained over 1,300 pastors in over 64 groups. Now PIBA runs their own organization and have assumed responsibility for training Portuguese speaking pastors in Brazil and worldwide.

Training Opportunity

Leadership Resources has a strategic vision to continue to develop graduates of the Training National Trainers program in both Word Work and Program Work. Word Work focuses on deepening trainers understanding and handling of the Scriptures, while Program Work equips them with necessary administration skills to continue a sustaining and transformative training movement. These Brazilian brothers have began to develop a vision both for Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking countries of the world and have already trained in Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa and Southeast Asia.

Prayer Requests

  • Praise God for the incredible fruit we have seen through our training thus far, and the global vision the Lord has given to our partners at PIBA.
  • Pray for the strengthening of Brazilian Mentor Trainers in their handling of the Word and ability to administrate a movement.
  • Pray for them to learn important dynamics of international ministry like choosing ministry partners and developing financial partnerships.
  • Pray for the saving light of the gospel to shine from the churches of the 1,300+ second-generation pastors who have received our training.
