Baking Cookies for Jesus: How God Stirred Two Young Hearts to Give

Dear Friends and Partners,

Meet two amazing young women…Lucy, age 8, and Hannah, age 12. After hearing, along with their parents, about our passion to equip and encourage pastors around the world to teach God’s Word with God’s heart, they were both moved.

HannahLucy and Hannah were moved not just emotionally, but into action as the Spirit captivated their hearts for this ministry. Each was burdened to find a way to help LRI financially, even though they had almost nothing. They had to do something!

LucyLucy wanted to support one of our LRI staff, Cory Van De Griend. But what could she do? Answer… “I can bake!”  Inspired, she got to work, designed a bake sale flyer, wrote a sales script and canvassed her entire neighborhood, encouraging them to “Bless a Missionary!” Two days later she made dozens & dozens of fresh-baked cookies and sold them door-to-door.

Lucy’s dad presented Cory with a Ziploc baggie bulging with dollar bills. Check out her precious note to Cory on the other side.

Hannah took another route. She saved half of the money she received as Christmas gifts and, along with her mom, gave it to staff member Tom Newton, to further our pastoral training work in Russia.

Can you imagine how humbled, encouraged, and inspired we were by Lucy and Hannah’s selflessness? Oh, might we learn from these children!

How might the Spirit be prompting you to partner with us, perhaps in creative, out-of-the-box ways?

Filled with gratitude in Christ,

craig1Craig Parro

PS: Do you realize how God values Lucy and Hannah’s gifts? Think of the widow’s mite in Mark 12:41-44. Jesus said, “This poor woman put in more…she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” Might the Lord stir each of us to this amazing level of generosity!
